The
Department of Classics
is by nature interdisciplinary
and cross-cultural,
covering as it does
roughly 3000 years
of the history of
3 highly significant
civilizations and
cultures of the
ancient Mediterranean
world. The Department
offers courses in
(a) Greek, Latin
and Egyptian Hieroglyphs
at all levels, and
(b) English courses
in all aspects of
Greek, Roman, and
Egyptian antiquity;
e.g. history, literature,
philosophy. mythology,
art, archaeology,
slavery, women,
law, and rhetoric.
Currently, majors
and minors are offered
in the ancient languages
(Greek, Latin) and
in Classical Civilization.
