Howard
University/Johns HopkinsUniversity/Prince George's Community College Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (PREM) The Howard/Hopkins/Prince George's CC PREM is a collaboration between the three institutions whose goal is to use world class nanomaterials research to train materials scientists and engineers from under-represented groups, particularly African-Americans. The PREM is managed by a Director at Howard University, who is assisted by Co-Directors at each of the three institutions. The Director and Co-Directors work with other faculty to meet Our Project Goals. The PREM is directly associated with the Johns Hopkins Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (JHU MRSEC). The JHU MRSEC and PREM closely support their common research and educational goals. The PREM's Organizational Structure gives the Director overall responsibility in all matters, but requires that he take advice from the Co-Directors, the JHU-MRSEC Director, an external advisory board and other faculty at the three institutions involved in the PREM project. The PREM Co-directors meet on a regular basis, rotating among the three institutions. DIRECTOR:
J.B. Halpern
Advisory Committee The PREM External Advisory Committee is to meet once a year in late winter. The Committee provides oversight of the PREM project and prepares an annual report on PREM research and educational activities which is integrated into the PREM annual report. History A proposal for the Howard/Hopkins/PGCC PREM project submitted to NSF in late Fall 2005. The project was funded June 15, 2006.
