Serial Imaging: The Merger of Photography and Printmaking

The Photography program is rooted in visual literacy. Visual literacy is presented to intellectually and critically study various types of images and to creatively develop a personal response and direction. This is facilitated, beginning at the intermediate level and carried throughout the program, by exposure and an examination of a variety of photographers, both historical and contemporary. Our students are trained in traditional photographic skills; exposure, development and printing competencies, as well as, the exploration of cultural ideologies from a personal to various global views.

Commencing the academic year, 2005-2006, the Department will transfer from traditional printmaking methods and practices to a large format, digital format. By this initiative, we expect to offer a teaching/learning environment through which every concentration we currently offer may collaborate and contribute serial imaging from a cross-disciplinary perspective.
