Omicron
Delta Epsilon (ODE) international honor Society in Economics
, one of the world's largest academic honor societies, was
created through the merger of two honor societies, Omicron
Delta Gamma and Omicron Chi Epsilon. ODE has over 578 chapters
in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom,
Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Egypt, and France.
The
chapter at Howard University (Beta Chapter) started in 1954
and has continued the tradition of encouraging academic
excellence and scholastic attainment among its members.
The chapter has over 500 students and active alumni who
assist in the achievement of the following Omicron Delta
Epsilon objectives:
Objectives

The recognition of scholastic attainment and the honoring
of outstanding achievements in economics
- The
establishment of closer ties between students and faculty
in economics within colleges and universities, and among
colleges and universities
- To
stimulate interest in economics and current economic problems
- To
interpret economic theory into applied fields of economics
Membership
Membership
is open to students who have a general interest in
economics and meet the following requirements.
A
membership fee is paid by each prospective member of Omicron
Delta Epsilon upon election to the society. In return,
the member receives a members card, scroll and a year's
subscription to The American Economist.

Undergraduates
Requirements for membership by undergraduate students
include:
- Completion of 12 semester hours of economics courses
- Attainment
of at least a "B" average economics courses
and an overall "B" average in all classes
Graduates
Requirements
for membership by graduate students include:
- Have been in residence at least a semester pursuing
an advanced degree in economics
- Attainment of a minimum of a "B" average
