Howard University will host a symposium to honor the life and contributions of the late Dr. John Hope Franklin
to the history of African Americans and the
advancement of civil and human rights in the United
States.
The panels will highlight the dynamism of the black
intelligentsia that surrounded him at Howard, his
pioneering research in archives and black historical
collections, the centrality of his work for new
interpretations of the black experience, and his
impact on international interpretations of American
history. Franklin’s own reflections on his work and
career will be shared through several documentary
films and recordings.
