Toungara</a></font></strong></p> <p><strong><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></strong></p> </blockquote></TD> <TD width="514" valign="top"> <br> <strong><font size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Donald Roe</font></strong></p> <p><font size="2"face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Professor Roe is an archivist and a historian who teaches courses in United States History and Public History. He joined the staff full time in 2002 after serving as an adjunct lecturer and completing a twenty-six year career as an audiovisual archivist and subject area expert at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Dr. Roe was a founding member and president (1984-2002) of NARA s Afro-American History Society and during 2001-2002 served on the National Sound Recording Preservation Board appointed by the Librarian of Congress. While at Howard, he has served as a faculty mentor in the Ronald McNair Scholars Achievement Program and as the faculty advisor for the  Buffalo Soldier Warriors Project. During 2007-2009, Dr. Roe was the director of the undergraduate program in the Department of History. Professor Roe lectures frequently on film and archives and has published articles on the subject in <i>Prologue: Quarterly Journal of the National Archives</i>. Articles relating to his research on Bolling v. Sharpe, a companion case to Brown v. Board of Education, have appeared in the <i>Negro History Bulletin</i>, <i>Washington History</i> and other publications. Other essays relating to slavery and the American Civil War have been published in the Gale Library Series on Daily Life in America. His most recent published scholarship consists of numerous entries in the Oxford University Encyclopedia of African American History: 1896 to the Present (2009). Professor Roe is currently revising a manuscript on Bolling. He is also researching the history of jazz in Washington, D.C. In conjunction with this research project, he is an active member of the  Thinking About Jazz committee at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Washington.
