Toungara</a></font></strong></p> <p><strong><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></strong></p> </blockquote></TD> <TD width="514" valign="top"> <br> <strong><font size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Quito Swan</font></strong></p> <p><font size="2"face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Associate Professor Dr. Quito Swan obtained his Ph.D. in African Diaspora History from Howard University in 2005, and joined its History Department in 2006. His primary research and writing interests are historical and contemporary Black political and cultural movements across the Diaspora. This includes: Black Power as an international phenomenon; pan-African liberation struggles; maroonage and resistance to slavery; African culture as resistance; Garvey and the UNIA; Rasta; African cosmology and spiritual systems in the Diaspora; Diasporic protest music, particularly Reggae; Afro-Venezuelan social movements; and the African Diaspora in the Caribbean and wider Americas. He is also faculty advisor of Cimarrones, a student organization at Howard aimed at building relationships with and spreading awareness about contemporary African descended communities across the Diaspora. His book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0230619061/ref=s9_simi_gw_p14_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0R18W3BFG15DZJKM2WWE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846"><i>Black Power in Bermuda and the Struggle for Decolonization</a></i> (2009) critically demonstrated the impact of Black Power in the West Indies.
