WORKFORCE TRAINING

The staff of the Howard University Center for Urban Progress Workforce Development Training Program (WDTP) invites you to browse through our website and learn how we are addressing community development through training, collaboration, and participatory research.

ABOUT US

The Workforce Development Training Program (WDTP) provides training in high and medium skilled occupations to unemployed and underemployed residents of the District of Columbia.

The program currently offers a 16-week training course in Microsoft Office applications which leads to the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification, thus preparing trainees to pursue employment as Office Clerks and Administrative Assistants. These areas are amongst the 25 occupational growth areas for the District of Columbia based on the findings of the 2004 Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) Survey. The training takes place at the Howard University Computer Technology Center located at 2000 14th Street NW, Suite 330, Washington, DC. The Center is a 20-station computer lab equipped with the latest Microsoft software and Internet access.

The objective of the WDTP is to provide sound research-based employment training to unemployed and underemployed persons through programs aimed at improving their work skills and putting them on the path to self-sufficiency.

HOW THE PROGRAM STRENGTHENS FAMILIES

The Workforce Development Training Program seeks to improve employment opportunities and quality of life of all its participants. The enhanced employability skills gained through the program help promote economic self-sufficiency and improve quality of life for the family. Adult participants gain experience working with the most current computer software and technology, helping to bridge the technology gap and facilitate interaction with their school-aged children. The program also assists in strengthening families by helping parents reinforce the importance of education, job training, and computer and technology literacy in our fast-paced technology savvy world.
