The
Research and Evaluation Division of the Center for Urban Progress
serves as Howard University’s central point for urban policy
research. It promotes a research agenda that focuses on social
and economic issues that are relevant to urban areas in the U.S.
and abroad. It also provides a sound research infrastructure
base available to faculty, staff and graduate students in the
departments of Economics, Political Science, Social Work, Education,
Allied Health, History, and Psychology with capacity to:
• organize
research on the critical issues that face urban areas globally;
• conduct economic impact studies;
• carry out econometric modeling;
• conduct spatial studies using GIS;
• acquire, manage and analyze large data including census data; and
• design and carry out program evaluation studies.
The
Research and Evaluation Division focuses on issues of racial
and social equity, community viability, and urban policy. Currently,
the Division provides the evaluation and human capital teams
for four District of Columbia programs and is conducting one
health-related community-based research project. The Division
also has recently produced six papers and reports related to
various social and economic issues facing the District of Columbia
and other American cities.
