The
District of Columbia is implementing a program called New Communities
Initiative for the purpose of revitalizing the Lincoln Heights
community in Southeast Washington, DC. The proposal is to develop
a mixed income community in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood
in collaboration with the residents and the larger community.
In
the spirit of true public-private partnership for community revitalization,
the Howard University Center for Urban Progress worked in collaboration
with Lincoln Heights New Community Partnership, the District
of Columbia Government, and the D.C. Housing Authority to determine
the service needs of community residents. The Center for Urban
Progress used multiple approaches to data collection in pursuance
of this research effort, including one-on-one household surveys,
focus groups, video taped interviews, and a community dollar
game.
