The
Center for Urban Progress is conducting an evaluation of the
implementation of the Pre-Kindergarten Incentive Program in the
District of Columbia by collecting and reporting on quantitative
and qualitative student progress and program data. The goal of
this activity is to provide information to the Early Care and
Education Administration and the District of Columbia Public
Schools for strengthening the program and identifying best practices.
The evaluation will also include a longitudinal study designed
to follow children from the Pre-Kindergarten Incentive Program,
and children of a comparison group, through sixth grade to assess
the impact of the Pre-Kindergarten Incentive Program on the children’s
academic and behavioral outcomes.
The
District of Columbia Public Schools, Department of Human Services
and the Early Care and Education Administration forged a partnership
to implement the Pre-Kindergarten Incentive Program. This is
a standards-based, high-quality, comprehensive, intellectual
and social development service program that serves over 300 three
and four year old District of Columbia children in community-based
Pre-K programs.
