WELCOME
For
over 100 years, Howard University has displayed superiority
in nurturing and developing the best professional men and
women around the globe. The Mecca now boasts excellence in
the performance of its marching band - The Marching
Bison.

Known
for its stellar stereophonic sound, kaleidoscopic precision
drills, star-quality vocalist and dazzling dynamic dance routines,
the Marching Bison is the mainstay of a diverse and ever expanding
population at Howard. One hundred and fifty members strong,
The Marching Bison is the largest student organization and
holds the distinction of being the "spirit of the University."
Membership is not limited to music majors; it is open to all
disciplines. Scholarships are offered on the basis of departmental
need, overall ability of the student and availability of funds.
The diverse repertoire in the marching band includes traditional
and contemporary literature.

Newson and Kelvin Washington,
The Marching Bison performs at all home football contests.
In addition to the local performances, The Marching Bison
has a travel schedule that has included performances at numerous
NFL games. Some of those performances have been for the Philadelphia
Eagles, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins,
Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens, to name a few.
These performances were of such a caliber to receive both
national and international attention invitations were extended
to participate in the 1990 Shrewsbury Music Festival in London,
England, as well as the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New
York.
