VOICE

MUSG-003. Voice Instruction (Class). 1 cr. Fundamentals of voice production. For Music Minors with vocal emphasis.

MUSG-031. Voice Class for Instrumental Majors. 2 crs. Fundamentals of voice production and problems commonly encountered in music education or therapy. Required of Music Education and Music Therapy non-vocal majors.

MUSG-111, 112. Voice Minor. 2 crs. each. Private instruction in the principles of breathing, phonetics, and diction; vocalises for sustained singing; scales and arpeggios; five English songs; and songs of the black heritage.

MUSG-121, 122. Voice Minor. 2 crs. ea. Private instruction. Consists of vocalises to meet the individual needs of the student, five songs in English and other languages, a German lieder, and easy arias.

MUSG-131, 132. Voice Minor. 2 crs. ea. Same description as MUSG-121, 122/003, 004.

MUSG-141, 142.Voice Minor. 2 crs. ea. Private instruction. Technical Studies, six songs by modern composers. French songs, and two or more arias. Recital required.

MUSG-156. Diction. 2 crs. Fall semester only.

MUSG-157. Solo Vocal Literature. 3 crs. Spring semester only.

MUSG-155. Vocal Pedagogy. 3 crs. Fall semester only.

MUSG-171-174. Opera Ensemble Workshop. 1 cr. Repertoire, interpretation and performance of operatic chamber ensemble literature (trios, quartets, quintets , and larger). Prereqs.: must be enrolled in private voice study (major, minor) AND by consent of the instructor.

MUSG-211, 212. Voice Major. 3 crs. ea. Instruction in breathing, phonetics, development of tone, legato singing, agility, and major and minor scales and arpeggios.

MUSG-221, 222. Voice Major. 3 crs. ea. Agility, sustained singing, classical vocal embellishments, and major and minor scales and arpeggios. Preparation for qualifying recital. Prereqs.: MUSG-211, 212, or consent of instructor.

MUSG-231, 232. Voice Major. 3 crs. ea. Major and minor scales and arpeggios, German art songs, and arias. Prereqs.: MUSG-221, 222, or consent of instructor. Qualifying recital required.

MUSG-241, 242. Voice Major. 3 crs. ea. Major and minor scales and arpeggios; music; German lieder; and Spanish, Russian, and French songs. Prereqs.: MUSG-231, 232, or consent of instructor. Recital required.
