GRADUATE RECITALS

Performance requirements in the form of recital appearances are made by the students in their area of specialization. Recital descriptions and requirements follow:

1. Jazz Studies Qualifying Recital: a recital, typically of one-hour in length, presented in the second semester of residence. The recital is required to continue in the Jazz Studies program.

2. Graduating Degree Recital: a public recital of one-hour in length, required of all degree candidates in the Performance and Jazz Studies major programs, and of students who elect the recital option in the Music Education program. The recital will consist of works approved by the private instructor.

Recital Scheduling Procedures

ENSEMBLES

All graduate students may participate in ensembles, as determined by the advisor. The following ensemble experiences are available (according to categories):

Orchestral Instruments: Concert Band, Orchestra (also available through the Consortium);

Vocal: University Choir, University Chorale, University Collegium;

Keyboard: Accompaniment for large and small ensembles;

Jazz Studies: Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Jazztet;

Music Education: selected from the above with the approval of the advisor.

 

JURIES

Each student enrolled in performance instruction (private lessons) must perform each semester before a faculty panel.
