Symposium Instructions

Please check this page closer to the actual symposium date for updated information. All information below is tentative.

Program Schedule

An initial program booklet will be available online. The schedule in this preliminary booklet is primarily for those students who are giving oral presentations. There will be changes, corrections and additions before the actual printing. A revised booklet which includes the listing of poster presenters and faculty advisors will be available closer to the actual symposium date and online.

Registration

Registration will begin at 7:45 am. A registration desk will be located in the lobby of the ballroom (on the second floor of the Blackburn Center) to help students locate where they are supposed to be. The desk will open at 7:45 am to provide information to all conference participants and attendees. All students should be registered by 8:30 am.

Poster Presentations

Poster Exhibition will be located in the East Ballroom, the room on the second floor nearest the reservoir. Students will be able to set up posters beginning at 7:45 a.m. Dressed tables will be available for all poster presenters. Students are asked to bring their own thumb tacks, Velcro, and other needed support paraphernalia.

Students presenting posters should be available between the hours of 10 am and 12:00 to field questions and explain research. At this time the judges will review your projects. There is another scheduled time—between 1:30 and 3:00—when general conference attendees and other guests will be invited to review posters; however, your availability will be optional.

Oral Presentations

Students giving oral presentations are expected to use PowerPoint. All rooms have been equipped to handle this requirement. Students do not need to bring their own equipment, such as laptops, etc. (If students wish to bring laptops, they may!) Presentations will run 15 – 20 minutes (no longer than this) so that time will be left for audience questions and dialogue. A paper presented in this time frame, would be approximately 10 – 12 double spaced, typewritten pages. Sessions have been set up so that 3 presenters will speak during each session. (We have tried to arrange this as much as possible.) If you have any questions or concerns, please call 202-806-6700 or send email to mahmed@howard.edu.

Luncheon

All presenters will be invited to a special luncheon at 12:00 in the West Ballroom. You will receive lunch tickets at the time of registration.

*Please call 202-806-6700 to correct information (names, majors, titles) or to ask questions. You may also send email to mahmed@howard.edu.
