Administration
of Justice (AOJ) Course Description and Curriculum
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The curriculum of the AOJ major is designed
to operationalize program goals and objectives
in the form of a logically-organized course
pattern. Because AOJ is a rapidly changing
field, the curriculum is by its very nature
fluid.
There exists a common theme around which the
curriculum adheres. This theme is couched
in the assumption that the criminal justice
system, as well as the complex societal reactions
to crime and delinquency, is better understood
in relation to the larger institutional order.
From this perspective, students can appreciate
some of the perplexing problems faced by the
system as well as efforts to mobilize resources
that might be required for resolving these
problems.
The
core curriculum, therefore, represents an
integration of sociological, criminological
theory and practice, with special, though
not exclusive, emphasis on the intersection
between the criminal justice system and minority
communities.
