Graduate/Teaching Assistantships
Limited graduate/teaching assistantships are available in the Department. To be considered for a graduate/teaching assistantship, complete the Graduate Assistantship application along with a letter of recommendation and a student copy of your transcript and return it to the Director of Graduate Studies.

Students with Graduate/Teaching Assistantships receive remission of tuition and a stipend per academic year. Students receiving awards must be in fulltime residence (taking a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester, unless s/he is writing the thesis or dissertation).

During the period of the award the student must not hold any employment outside of the department. Assistants are expected to devote a minimum of fifteen (15) hours per week (during the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) to their duties in instructional, research, or administrative duties, under the supervision of a faculty member in the department. Graduate Assistants who are Teaching Assistants, i.e., who teach a course in the department, must hold the M.A. degree, must have worked with a faculty member assisting in instructional duties, and must have completed the Workshop for Teaching Assistants offered by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Administration of Justice Internship Program
A specialized internship is offered in the department for students interested in Criminology and in pursuing research in this area. The student will receive an annual stipend. The student must be willing to work a minimum of 15 hours per week within the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) under the supervision of an NIJ program person on work NIJ is engaged in, or produce a research proposal that addresses an issues) NIJ has interest in. Students may apply for this internship in June for the Fall semester or November for the Spring semester. Students should consult the Office of Student Relations and Enrollment Management in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences for current information concerning other sources and types of financial assistance.
